Quarterly swing dance of the OU Jitterbug Club, open to everyone! All forms of dance welcome. There is a beginner lesson before each dance from 8-9 p.m. Bands begin at 9 p.m. Featuring live music from Chicago: LESLEY BYERS and the Jazz Cats.

Slide presentation and talk by Cat Cutcher, graduate student at Ohio University with OU researchers Tom Smucker and Edna Wangui on the knowledge of communities and coping capacities with regard to global warming on Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. Cat is a Fulbright scholar who will go to Kenya in October to study the Green Belt Movement, a social and environmental movement for which Wangari Maathai won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Come learn about how global warming is affecting the world now. Speaker is part of the monthly meeting of the Appalachian Ohio Group Sierra Club.

The Fall Reception is a great time to bring along a friend who you think would enjoy Athens Friends and Newcomers (AFAN) (http://www.athensfriends.com/). Whether they are new to Athens County or just ready to join an organization like ours, they are welcome.

At the Fall Reception each Interest Group will be introduced and will be looking for new members. Desserts and drinks will be provided.

AFAN is a social organization based in Athens, Ohio that assists new residents make friends and become better acquainted with Athens County. Founded in 1969, AFAN hosts a monthly meeting, special events, and has more than 15 special interest groups that meet on a regular basis. AFAN has more than 180 members from Athens, The Plains, Albany, New Marshfield, Stewart, Lancaster, and Nelsonville. AFAN is a great way to meet new friends and reconnect with old ones.
