Love Your Body Day 2007

Love Your Body Day 2007 is Thursday, October 18!

download posterLove Your Body Day is a day of action and consciousness-raising about images of women that are harmful and offensive.

The Ohio University Women’s Center will host 2 events to celebrate.

1.) Table in Baker University Center, 10 am-6 pm
Materials about body image, healthy eating, and positivie body consciousness.

2.) Screening: REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES @ 6 pm

Do you love what you see when you look in the mirror?

Hollywood and the fashion, cosmetics and diet industries work hard to make each of us believe that our bodies are unacceptable and need constant improvement. Print ads and television commercials reduce us to body parts — lips, legs, breasts — airbrushed and touched up to meet impossible standards. TV shows tell women and teenage girls that cosmetic surgery is good for self-esteem. Is it any wonder that 80% of U.S. women are dissatisfied with their appearance?

Women and girls spend billions of dollars every year on cosmetics, fashion, magazines and diet aids. These industries can’t use negative images to sell their products without our assistance.

Together, we can fight back. —

Niches Retreat Center
Locust Grove Road, McArthur, Ohio

Weekend Yoga Retreat with with Michelle Stobart of Inhale Yoga Studio ( We will gather at the Niches Retreat Center this year. This is a fantastic sustainable living retreat center that offers a unique living experience in a peaceful and natural environment. This space is small and intimate as far as facilities go, so the retreat is limited to the first 15 participants.

I am working with some really amazing people to offer yet another unique retreat experience. On the roster, Amanda Sharrai, a raw foodist and lots of other things as well, will come in on Saturday to do a presentation on the raw foods movement, and then we will have a hands-on dinner preparation experience.

I’m working on one more teacher as well. More details about her when we confirm.
