Cat Cutcher will be speaking about activism for peace and justice and reflecting on the balance between inner peace and outer/public peacemaking.

Catherine “Cat” Cutcher is originally from Columbus, Ohio and has lived in the Athens area since 1997. She has been an activist and community organizer since she was 15, and has worked on diverse issues including peace, justice, human rights, sustainable development and environmental restoration. She has worked with many local organizations, such as the Appalachian Peace and Justice Network, UCM, the Buckeye Forest Council, Rural Action, the Athens Farmers Market, and InterAct.

Currently she is a Ph.D. Student in Cultural Studies in Education at Ohio University. She also has an MA in International Affairs and African Studies from Ohio University, and a BA in Anthropology, Sociology and International Studies from Kalamazoo College. She recently received a Fulbright Scholarship from the U.S. Department of State for her dissertation research on popular education among women’s grassroots organizations in Kenya. She will be in Kenya from November 2007 through June 2008.

All students, faculty, and community are invited. Soup for the Soul’s fall 2007 theme is “Meet the Peacemakers.” Free lunch of soup and bread every Thursday!
