WALKOUT is the true story of Chicano students who decided to stage a peaceful walkout against the injustices of the public school system in the East Los Angeles high schools in 1968. This event was a defining moment in the drive for equal rights for Latino Americans.

Paula Crisostomo was one of the leaders of the Chicano High School Walkout of 1968, on which the film is based. She will be keynote speaker here on Oct 2.

Part of Hispanic Heritage Month @ OU. National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each September 15 – October 15 in the United States of America to recognize the contributions made by people of Hispanic descent and to celebrate Hispanic culture. Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15 because it is the anniversary of five (5) Latin American countries’ Independence Day: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Activities include an opening reception, lectures, panel discussion and movies.
