Girlfriend’s Guide to Activism: Janice Windborne

Dr. Janice Windborne is an OU graduate whose work uses media to highlight human rights issues around the world and to affect policy change. Janice worked for Pacifica Radio in San Francisco in the late ’70s and ’80s. Later, she used radio to bring Kosovo refugee families together during the war in 1998-99. If you’ve ever wondered how mass media can be used for social justice… you don’t want to miss this!

Windborne, assistant professor at Otterbein College in Westerville, is faculty adviser to WOBN-FM/ and teaches broadcast performance, media ethics, and media and society. Her research interests include gender and media, international media, and media for development.

Girlfriend’s Guide to Activism is an opportunity for students and community members to share their beliefs and learn of someone else’s. Refreshments provided. Sponsored by UCM: Center for Spiritual Growth and Social Justice.
