Real Food Revival at Niches (the last one)

Real Food Revival at Niches (the last one)
Monthly Potluck
Sunday, August 26, 2007, 5 PM
Niches Retreat (http://www.niches.cc/)
Locust Grove Road, McArthur, Ohio

The last Sunday of August marks the 1 year anniversary of the Real Food Revival, a monthly potluck celebrating local, seasonal, made from scratch, sustainably-produced foods.

We have shared many amazing meals together and had some interesting conversations over the past year. Growing, preparing, eating and talking about food are among my favorite things to do and it has been so exciting to meet new people and connect with old friends over the most creative meals I have ever had the pleasure of eating.

This month is the last month the revival will be held at Niches Retreat, where it originated. The organization that I work for and that owns Niches is selling the land and cabins. I hope we will have a good turnout for this last Niches Revival. I’m not sure where we will move the event next month or if we will even continue it. (No one came to our July Revival).

This month’s theme is “cool” foods — loosely interpreted by individual food preparers. Maybe we can further our discussion — started earlier this year — on the connection between food and global warming with a focus on what we can do to make our food more sustainable/less fuel intensive. Remember to bring your recipe. I will have all the recipes collected over the past year and would like to finally follow through on putting together a cookbook.

Please share this information on to a friend who might be interested and let us know if you have or know of a space in Athens that might be a new venue for the Revival.

Ms. Guthrie asks all participants to prepare a short, un-memorized poem or monologue to perform. Please be prepared to stay until at least 3 PM. Some actresses may be asked to stay until 4 PM for further assessment, so please plan accordingly. More details will be available at the audition.

The Ohio Arts Council helped fund this organization with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.

Women’s Equality Day on Women Today and Yesterday

Women’s Equality Day on Women Today and Yesterday
Lois Whealey with guest Judy Daso
Friday, August 24, 6:30 PM & Sunday, August 26, 3 PM

Channel 23
Athens, Ohio

This week Lois Whealey’s talk show Women Today and Yesterday will focus on Women’s Equality Day–the anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment on August 26, 1920.

Lois and Judy Daso will discuss the woman suffrage movement and history of women at Ohio University.

Women Today and Yesterday is scheduled to air Fridays at 6:30 PM and Sundays at 3 PM. However, since these are times when no one is at the station, sometimes the ‘automatic play’ doesn’t work right. The taped show often is on on Saturday at either 3 or 6:30 also, and at other odd times–like Tuesday at 2 or 3 PM.

To date Women Today and Yesterday has featured nearly 4 dozen different women guests. The following week will feature Dr. Mary Anne Flournoy, Associate Director Emerita of the OU International Center.
