Influenced by her birth and upbringing in Mexico, Elena Osterwalder says she pushes color to its maximum potential “to reach a point where the inherent beauty of color becomes by itself the expression of my Mexican culture, my inmost feelings, aspirations, and passions.”

Osterwalder’s work has been featured in group exhibitions all over Ohio and in Switzerland, and featured in public and corporate collections in Ohio, Mexico, and Switzerland. Her solo exhibitions include those in Ohio and Washington, DC. Last year she received the National Association of Latin Arts and Culture Fund for the Arts Grant for her exploration of “earth-friendly organic colors” on handmade paper. She continues to fuse American and Hispanic cultures by adapting pre-Hispanic methods of dyeing and making installations of natural and environmentally safe elements.

The 2-3 PM exhibit opening immediately precedes the Women in the Arts Symposium.
