Tonya Thompson, artist and accessories designer, owns more than one hundred dolls from all over the world. The oldest doll exhibited is an inherited piece dating from 1915 from a New Orleans Creole family. The most recent was a gift created by artist Sylvis Boston, whose work also appears in the Philadelphia Doll Museum (also known as the Black Doll Museum). The collection reflects Thompson’s lifelong love for anthropology and history. She refers to the collection as “the family of man,” as it represents the diversity and commonality of the human experience.
