Feminist Books for Children, 2002-2008
Every year since 2002, the Amelia Bloomer Project committee has reviewed children’s books to create the Amelia Bloomer List of recommended books for children. Notable books with strong female characters are recognized in its annual list of books for ages birth through 18.
Below are downloadable lists in pdf with OU Libraries call numbers.
- Beginning Readers/Picture Books (pdf)

- Young Adult (pdf)
Ohio University Libraries holds nearly all the books on the ABP lists in its Children’s Collection.
Find more info on the books, search, and sort in the List’s LibraryThing library.
The ABP was developed by the Feminist Task Force of the American Library Association’s Social Responsibilities Round Table. The FTF was founded in 1970, and established the ABP in 2002. The list is named for feminist activist Amelia Bloomer (1818-1894).
